CIRU MURIUKI RESPONDS TO BEING LABELLED RED THIGH WOMAN

Renowned media personality Ciru Muriuki has broken her silence following a wave of online harassment that targeted her after the passing of her fiancé Charles Ouda. 

The harassment, which trended on social media platform X, a cultural myth known as the “red thigh” to defame her character. Muriuki responded to the allegations with a video. “Now that we’re here…. pov when I heard about all the men I apparently dated and the colour of my thighs.” She accompanied the video with a T-Pain’s  song Up Down.

The attacks against Muriuki surfaced following the tragic passing of her boyfriend, acclaimed actor and playwright Charles ‘Charlie’ Ouda, in February 2024. Online commentators, like the account Kuria Chronicles, propagated the “red thigh” myth. “With regards to the death of Charles Ouda and the alleged story of  Ciru Muriuki, this is the  Red Thigh Myth Explained: The  theory is that a red thighed   child is a child sired during the mourning period among the Agikuyu. 

The Red thighs is a curse to the child for being born during the death of another person. And therefore, for every child that that child will have, another person must die. Red thighs are a cursed people who were born as a result of an incestuous sexual intercourse. If you get a daughter, most likely, she will be red thighed,” he said.
