JOURNALIST ZUBEIDAH KANANU LEAVES KTN AFTER 18 YEARS
After a celebrated 18-year tenure, veteran journalist, renowned news anchor Zubeidah Kananu has announced her departure from the Standard Group.
Kananu, a familiar voice in Kenyan media, described her time at the company as an “incredible chapter” that shaped her professional journey. Her departure marks the end of a era at the media house, where she became a top news anchor of its broadcast news division.
“These 18 years have been filled with lessons, growth, challenges, and friendships I will forever treasure,” she said. “I am deeply grateful to my colleagues, mentors, and friends at the Standard Group who have walked this path with me. Their support has been invaluable.“
During her nearly two decades with the Standard Group, primarily at KTN News, Kananu held several roles, evolving from a journalist to a leading news anchor and editor. She was instrumental in anchoring major news coverage, conducting high-profile interviews, and guiding the editorial direction of the station, earning the respect of peers and the trust of the public.
While closing this chapter, Kananu stated her commitment to the journalism profession. She shared her dedication to serving the media fraternity through her role in the Kenya Editors’ Guild.
“My commitment to journalism and to serving our fraternity through the Kenya Editors’ Guild remains stronger than ever,” she stated. “The story continues, and together, we will keep shaping the future of media. Here’s to new beginnings, to resilience, and to purpose,” she added.
