KENYA’S WOMEN MAKE HISTORY WITH STUNNING GOLDEN SWEEP IN TOKYO
The 20th World Athletics Championships in Tokyo saw Team Kenya deliver a historic performance, achieving its most successful medal haul to date.
Team Kenya athletes excelled across track, field, and marathon events, securing an impressive total of 11 medals: seven gold, two silver, and two bronze.
Beatrice Chebet stood out by winning double gold in both the 5000m and 10,000m. Chebet became the first woman to simultaneously hold world and Olympic titles.

Kenya dominated in women’s middle and long-distance events, sweeping every title from the 800m to the marathon. Faith Kipyegon defended her 1500m title, earning her fourth global gold. She also added a silver medal in the 5000m.
In the 3000m steeplechase, Faith Cherotich reclaimed the gold for Kenya with a new championship record, the first time the country had won the event since 2019. Lillian Odira gave an outstanding performance in the 800m, breaking a championship record that had stood since 1983. On the men’s side, Emmanuel Wanyonyi secured the 800m gold with another championship record, becoming the only Kenyan male to claim a global title this year.
Dorcas Ewoi bagged silver in 1500 m, Edmund Serem won bronze in the 3000m steeplechase, while Raynold Cheruiyot added another bronze in 1500m.
