MUSICIAN WINYO TO LEAD MUSIC COMPOSITION RESIDENCY
The Institute of Cultural Music, in collaboration with the acclaimed musician Winyo Shiphton, has announced a Music Composition Workshop and Residency, scheduled for October 1-4, 2025.
This program is designed to nurture the creativity, cultural identity, and professional growth of both established and emerging artists. Under the guidance of Winyo, participants will explore critical aspects of music creation, including: Cultivating personal creativity while drawing inspiration from Kenyan traditions. Discovering and refining the unique sonic signature of each artist. Building compositional frameworks suitable for both local and international audiences. Integrating traditional Kenyan sounds and instruments into contemporary musical works.
The program will combine practical workshops, collaborative composition sessions, and one-on-one mentorship, all aimed at strengthening the artists’ technical skills and solidifying their artistic identity. “We warmly invite professional musicians, emerging talents, and passionate creatives to take part in this transformative program. Together, we will shape new sounds that carry the essence of Kenyan culture into the future of music.”
Spaces for the residency are limited, with only 10 spots available, interested applicants must submit their details for consideration to bengahouseconnect@gmail.com. Qualified musicians will be notified. The residency fee is Sh20,000 for the four-day program.
