SWEDISH-BASED SOCIAL WORKER WARNS KENYAN WOMEN AGAINST MARRYING EUROPEAN MEN
Becky Emmanuel, a social worker based in Sweden, has issued a warning to women from Kenya and across East Africa, urging them not to marry European men.
In a video on her TikTok account, Emmanuel, who works directly with affected families, stated she is “on her knees begging” women to stop, citing an overwhelming pattern of abuse, injustice and the traumatic separation of children that she witnesses daily in her professional capacity.
“Most of these European men you are getting married to are not normal. They have some mental issues and nobody will stand there for you,” Emmanuel stated. “The abuse they have to tell us every day, it is horrible. You don’t need to go through that. That is not a way to escape poverty.”
Her warning is based on firsthand accounts from African women who have entered these relationships. She describes a cycle where victims find themselves isolated with no support system. She claims that the men often commit acts of violence they “cannot do to their white women,” leaving the African partners vulnerable.
“No journalist will stand there for you. No law enforcement officer will give you justice. No court will give you justice and no social worker will take sides with you. Instead, they will take advantage of you. They are removing your children.”
The social worker estimates that a 80 percent of these relationships “do not end up well,” leading to physical and psychological trauma for the women and their children. She expressed sadness over the treatment and the fate of their mixed-race children, who she says are often “taken, abused, violated, used for all kinds of purposes” and not valued by their European fathers.
Emmanuel ended her plea with a call to action for non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in East Africa to intervene, “Please, if there’s an NGO, try to talk to the young girls in Kenya. Talk to the women… that they should be careful when getting married to these European men.”
