‘HE GIFTED HER A HIRED PRADO’ CEBBIE’S BROTHER BLASTS STEVE OGOLLA FOR DEMANDING DOWRY BACK
The Kokeyo family has broken its silence regarding the ongoing public fallout between their daughter, Elseba Kokeyo popularly known as Cebbie Koks, and her former husband, advocate Steve Ogolla.
The family has levelled serious allegations against the lawyer, accusing him of orchestrating a campaign of public humiliation and living a “fake life for social media glory.“
The controversy escalated this week when Ogolla reportedly sent individuals, accompanied by bloggers, to the family’s rural home in Migori to reclaim the dowry paid during their December 2022 wedding. The family states that while the return of dowry is culturally acceptable, the manner in which it was executed was deliberately disrespectful.

“If it was about dowry recovery according to Luo tradition, it would have been done with some respect. He could have sent his kinsmen to come with respect, without drama,” said Foky Mopao, a brother to Cebbie Koks. “But his main aim was to subject our family to public humiliation, which we cannot accept. Sending bloggers to our respected home is disrespectful, even to our old parents.”
The family also made startling new claims about the couple’s brief marriage. He revealed that the white Prado vehicle famously gifted to Cebbie during their wedding was allegedly not owned by Ogolla but was hired for the event and repossessed by the showroom just one month into the marriage. “I knew this guy from the first day; he loves drama. He decided to bring a hired car as a wedding gift for my sister, and after one month, the car was returned to the showroom. Very petty,” Mopao stated.
In a warning, the family indicated they are prepared to respond in kind to what they perceive as public attacks. “We have a name to protect, but the moment this guy sent bloggers to our home, I knew there was nothing left to hide,” he added. The family has also demanded the return of all furniture they claim Ogolla took from their sister’s marital home, saying that the situation has descended into an unfortunate cycle of pettiness.
“Come for your cows, but kindly you also return all the furniture you took from our sister,” the statement concluded. “You give a person a home and take things and take someone to rental apartments? Brother, some of us can be very petty ten times if you want.“
