MAN ARRESTED AFTER ATTEMPTING TO STEAL DEDAN KIMATHI STATUE FROM UHURU PARK
A Kenyan man is in police custody after being apprehended while attempting to flee with the stolen statue of freedom hero Dedan Kimathi from Uhuru Park.
The arrest was made by officers from the Nairobi County Environment Department, preventing the loss of the historic monument. Confirming the incident, Nairobi County Chief Environment Officer, Geoffrey Mosiria, issued a warning to scrap metal dealers against engaging in the illegal trade of government property.

“Wezi hawana huruma! Thanks to our officers, Hon Rodriques Lunalo Mulindi, for arresting this thief who had just stolen the Dedan Kimathi statue from Uhuru Park, one of the facilities we manage under the Environment Department,” stated Mr. Mosiria. “We shall continue enforcing the law against those who steal government property for their selfish gain at the expense of many Nairobians.”
Mosiria said there is a zero-tolerance policy towards the vandalism and theft of public assets. “To all scrap metal dealers involved in this illegal business, be warned! We will take firm action against anyone found in possession of stolen government assets,” he added. “We shall also be conducting regular inspections in scrap yards to educate and warn dealers about the consequences of handling property that belongs to the people of Kenya.”
