TATIANA KARANJA ON USING GLP-1 MEDICATION TO LOSE WEIGHT

Content creator Tatiana Karanja has revealed that she has begun using GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLPs) as part of a strategy to manage her weight following a difficult period of postpartum depression.

In a post, Karanja detailed her journey over the past few months, which she described as starting at rock bottom. After the birth of her third child, she faced depression and weight gain of 20kgs, and exhaustion that led her to stop breastfeeding a decision she called heartbreaking but necessary. “Depression medication gave me the relief I desperately needed. Stopping breastfeeding gave me sleep and sleep changed everything,Karanja stated.

She stated her commitment to holistic health, “I’ve been going to CrossFit, playing padel, doing therapy and group psychotherapy. I invested in a 3-month business strategy cohort. I’ve been walking with my dad and dogs. I’ve even been socialising nightclubs, shocking 😅 I’ve been doing the work.

I’ve been doing the work. And it’s working. I’m off depression medication now,” she shared, noting the positive changes in her mental state, sleep, and energy levels.

The decision to incorporate GLPs, a class of medication that helps regulate blood sugar and suppress appetite, was made after months of consideration and in close consultation with a doctor.

This isn’t a decision I’ve taken lightly,Karanja explained. “I’ve had conversations about this for months. I’m working with a doctor doing this safely and intentionally.” She acknowledged feeling some shame but chose transparency, stating, “Life is hard enough. If something can help me be happier, I’m not going to apologise for that.

Karanja was clear that the medication is not a replacement for the work she has done. “This isn’t me saying ‘I’m done.’ I’ve done the work and I’ll continue doing the work. This is just extra help supporting everything else.”
