The body of celebrated gospel artist Beatrice Wairimu Mbugua, popularly known as Betty Bayo, has been transferred from the Kenyatta National Hospital Mortuary to the KU Referral Funeral Home.  This follows her untimely passing on Monday, November 10, at 1:00 PM, after a battle with leukemia.

The singer, famed for her hit anthem 11th Hour, was 43 years old. Her passing was confirmed by her family during a press briefing attended by her husband, Hiram Gitau, and her former husband, Prophet Kanyari.

The family revealed that the artist had been bravely battling acute myeloid leukemia and had been admitted to the hospital’s High Dependency Unit (HDU) last week after her condition worsened. In a statement, family spokespersons shared details of her final days: “Betty has been unwell since last week; she was diagnosed with acute mild cancer, leukemia. She was transferred to KNH on Friday as she was suffering from excessive bleeding. The doctors tried their best, but the will of God has prevailed.”

Prophet Kanyari, with whom Betty shared two children, also shared a tribute on his social media, writing, “R.I.P Mama Sky. The mother to my kids.”
