COMEDIAN SAMMY KIOKO IN CRISIS AS MACHAKOS COUNTY PAYMENT DELAY HALTS SISTER’S SURGERY
Popular comedian Sammy Kioko is publicly appealing to the Machakos County Government to settle a Sh19 million debt for work completed, a delay that has now directly impacted his sister’s access to medical care.
The payment, which has been outstanding for two years, was for a completed embroidery project commissioned by the county. The non-payment forced Kioko to shut down his tailoring business, as he could no longer afford rent or employee salaries. The financial strain has now reached a critical point, as the funds were intended to finance his sister’s second surgery.
“When you stay silent in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor,” Kioko stated in a social media post. “No one is asking for charity; it’s money for work done. That was her first surgery. We have been doing regular hospital check-ups, only waiting and hoping we will be paid so we can finance her second surgery, which is due.”

Kioko’s attempts to resolve the matter amicably have been met with frustration. After being unable to secure a meeting with Governor Wavinya Ndeti, he resorted to camping outside her offices. The County Government has since denied owing him any money, citing a lack of supporting documents, a claim Kioko vehemently disputes.
“County government, let us uphold humanity. Not everything is to be politicised!” Kioko pleaded. “We called for help but ended up being political!! It’s unfair, and all we need is our payments.” The comedian confesses that the financial and emotional toll of the situation has led to depression.
