GRAMMY AWARD WINNING ARTIST KAYCYY RETURNS TO KENYA
KayCyy, the Grammy-winning Kenyan-American rapper and songwriter celebrated for his work with global superstars like Kanye West, Lil Baby, and Travis Scott, has made a momentous return to his homeland of Kenya after 17 years.
The artist, born Mark Makora Mbogo in Keroka to Kisii parents, has announced that his visit marks the beginning of “Chapter 1 = Roots,” setting the stage for his highly anticipated debut studio album.
This homecoming follows a prolific period in KayCyy’s career, where he has solidified his reputation as a sought-after collaborator in the music industry. He played a significant role in the creation of Kanye West’s acclaimed album Donda, contributing to its sound. His recent release, Mixtape Vol 1, has been praised for its artistic depth, which he describes as a return to his creativity.
“Making music should feel free,” KayCyy stated, reflecting on his journey. “Make what you want. I brought this back to the fun of the stages and also the pain in my phases in life. The journey continues…”
The Roots chapter signifies a reconnection with his heritage and the inspiration of his origins, which is expected to influence the sound and narrative of his upcoming debut album.
