MOMBASA WOMAN ARRESTED IN ROMANCE SCAM AFTER ROBBING BRITISH BOYFRIEND 800K
Detectives based in Nyali have arrested a woman and her male accomplice for allegedly orchestrating a robbery that targeted her British boyfriend, resulting in a loss of Sh800,000.
The prime suspect, identified as Samira Mumbi Kiarie alias Samira, is alleged to have wooed the foreign national for several months through an online dating platform, cultivating a relationship under false pretenses. After gaining his confidence, she lured him to a high-end apartment in Nyali for a meeting.
According to the police report, the situation turned violent shortly after the Briton’s arrival. Two men stormed into the apartment; one posing as Samira’s enraged husband and the other brandishing a fake police identification badge. The ‘husband’ accused the victim of wrecking his marriage, while the impersonator cop threatened him with arrest.
Fearing for his life, the victim was coerced into transferring Sh800,000 to mobile phone numbers provided by the assailants. Once the transaction was confirmed, the trio escorted the victim from the premises and fled the scene.
Acting on forensic intelligence the pursuit led to the arrest of Samira Mumbi and her accomplice, Paul Webster Mangeni alias Paulo. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the two are part of a criminal syndicate that specifically targets foreigners through dating sites. “Both suspects are in police custody undergoing processing pending arraignment as the hunt intensifies for their partner-in-crime who is still at large,” stated the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Nyali.
