SONKO SETTLES HOSPITAL BILLS FOR 110 MOTHERS AT MAMA LUCY
Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko today secured the discharge of 110 mothers from Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital by personally clearing their outstanding medical bills.
The initiative also provided immediate financial support and a long-term healthcare solution for the women and their families. His action was prompted by a direct request for assistance, to which Sonko responded promptly. His intervention allowed the mothers, who had been detained at the facility due to unpaid bills, to finally return home with their newborns.
“Today marked a very significant day for me and the 110 mothers who were released from Mama Lucy Hospital after I settled their bills,” said Sonko. “No mother should be held in a hospital after delivering her child due to financial constraints.”
The politician announced a long-term solution by committing to cover their SHA (Social Health Authority) fees. This ensures the mothers and their infants will have continued, free access to essential medical services. He also took a moment to extend his condolences to four mothers who had tragically lost their babies.
