‘STAND WITH JUSTICE’ NASRA YUSUFF CALLS OUT TANZANIAN ARTISTES FOR STAYING SILENT
Popular Kenyan comedienne Nasra Yusuff has challenged top Tanzanian celebrities to break their silence and use their influential platforms to speak out on the ongoing situation in Tanzania.
The call, directed at some of the biggest names in Tanzanian music including Diamond Platnumz, Ali Kiba, Harmonize, Rayvanny, and Nandy, questions their silence while their fans and the youth face a reported crisis. “The youth who see you as a role model are crying right now,” Yusuff stated in her viral message. “Most of them have been killed, most of them with gunshot wounds. Can’t you just talk and support your fans who have been with you all these years?”
She pressed the artists on the practical and moral implications of their silence, asking, “Who are you pushing your songs to be listened to this period? Your target audience are crying. Who are you pushing so that they can hear you?”
She expressed frustration that artists with massive platforms are remaining silent while their people need them most. “You who have platforms [are] keeping silent in a program like this that your people, your fellow youth, your fans need you,” she questioned. “Who is supposed to speak on their behalf??? Us in Kenya??? You are failing your people so much!”
The comedienne concluded with a warning about the future relationship between the artists and their fanbase, urging them to, “Wake up Tanzanian artists, stand with justice!”
