‘STATE-SPONSORED KILLINGS’ TANZANIA’S OPPOSITION REJECTS SAMIA’S WIN

Chama cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (CHADEMA), Tanzania’s opposition party, has rejected of the recent elections and the the win of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, citing violence, alleged state-sanctioned killings and a deliberate suppression of communication.

The party’s statement, issued on Saturday, 2nd November 2025, outlines a series of allegations against the government. In the release, CHADEMA cites: A large number of civilian deaths and life-threatening injuries. The existence of pictures and videos showing dead bodies in public areas, and hospitals overwhelmed with corpses, indicating “mass killings are taking place in Tanzania under the oppressive regime of Samia Suluhu Hassan and her party.”

Reports that police are collecting bodies from hospitals to “erase evidence and statistics.” And lack of essential services, leaving the injured unable to seek medical care due to disabled transportation and communication networks.

CHADEMA has declared the following positions and demands: The party “strongly condemns the unnecessary use of force by the security organs of Tanzania against demonstrators who chose to exercise their constitutional and legal right to peacefully protest against the illegal exercise of the so-called elections.

CHADEMA calls “upon the security organs to immediately stop the excessive and unreasonable use of force against citizens who are peacefully demonstrating.” The party “advises and appeals to the International Community, especially the United Nations and the International Criminal Court (ICC), to urgently conduct an independent investigation into these killings committed by the government of Tanzania against its citizens and to take appropriate action.”

The opposition part calls “upon the government to immediately restore internet services to facilitate citizens’ communication and enable the provision of other social services more easily.”
