THE LAST VILLAGE LODGE DISTANCES ITSELF FROM RUTH MORAA’S ZIPLINE ACCIDENT
The Last Village Lodge in Machakos County has issued a statement distancing itself from responsibility for a ziplining accident that reportedly left Ruth Moraa, a former trainee at the facility, with a broken spine.
In a statement released on November 25, 2025, the Lodge management addressed what it called “repeated posts” by Moraa concerning the 2023 incident. The Lodge stated that the accident resulted from “unauthorised access,” alleging that Moraa and another individual rode the zipline “without regard for safety.” The facility described the event as an “isolated case outside our standard procedures” and an “exceptional breach.”

Detailing its “impeccable safety record with no customer accidents,” the Lodge further stated that all its safety protocols are designed to prevent such incidents. The management also addressed the medical response, stating that they took Moraa to Kangundo Level 4 Hospital, where doctors recommended emergency treatment. The Lodge claims that Moraa’s family “objected to it,” and that they “could do no more in the circumstances.“
The Lodge confirmed that the matter is now the subject of a lawsuit. “Ruth lodged a suit in the High Court at Machakos, but the Court declined jurisdiction and transferred it to the Employment and Labour Relations Court for hearing,” the statement read. It further noted that the “pendency of the case bars online discussion of its merits,” urging all parties to allow the court to reach a fair resolution.
Concluding the statement, The Last Village Lodge sought to assure the public and its guests that its zipline remains a “safe and well-maintained facility, supported by trained and experienced staff,” and that safety is its top priority.
