FORMER LUGARI MP CYRUS JIRONGO TO BE BURIED ON DECEMBER 30
The burial date for former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo has been set for December 30, 2025. George Khaniri, the former Vihiga Senator, shared the news as part of the burial committee. He said the family agreed on the date after discussions.
Khaniri noted that Jirongo owned several homes. This had raised some uncertainty about the final resting place. “We have agreed on the burial date,” he said. “The former MP had many homes, and people were asking which home he would be buried at.“
He confirmed the family’s choice, “The family has agreed that he be buried at his Lumakanda home next to his father and mother’s grave.”
Jirongo died on Saturday, December 13, following an early morning road accident near Naivasha, Nakuru County. The 64-year-old was driving on the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway when his private vehicle collided with a passenger bus.
Since his passing, leaders and community members have shared tributes. Friends and family gathered at his home, struggling with the news. Relatives were seen comforting one another.
Jirongo’s political career began when he was elected as MP for Lugari in 1997, serving until 2002. He later formed his own party and reclaimed the seat in 2007, serving again until 2013. He made a bid for the Kakamega Senate seat in 2013 but was not successful. In 2017, he ran for the presidency. His last major election was in 2022, when he ran for Kakamega Governor.
