LARRY MADOWO WARNS TANZANIANS AGAINST FRAUDSTERS POSING AS HIM
CNN journalist Larry Madowo has sent a warning to Tanzanians. He says there are scammers on social media who are pretending to be him to trick people.
Madowo has been in the news lately after his report about the recent Tanzanian elections was shown on CNN. The report talked about violence during the elections and claimed that some civilians were killed by police when they tried to stop protests. This happened during a time when the government had limited internet access.
After the report aired, many Tanzanians showed their support for Madowo online by changing their profile pictures on social media, especially on X, to a photo of him.

The act of support, however, has led to a problem. Madowo explained that some people are now using his photo to trick others. He shared a post from a user named Jafa Love Story, who posted a long message asking for money while using Larry’s picture.
“I am asking you to stop,” Larry wrote about the situation. “I have not asked for any help, even financially. I do not have a Tanzanian bank account or Mpesa number. I do not want any financial help from anyone. If you see anyone making such claims, just know that it is not me. Don’t get scammed. I’m not asking for money in Tanzania.”
Later, he found another fake account using his photo. The user of that account had written, “I am not a good person … I hate God.” Larry responded to this by saying, “It is all fun and games when people use you as their profile until…”
