MUSICIAN IYANII COMMITS 20 PERCENT OF HIS EARNINGS TO PRISON OUTREACH
Musician Iyanii has announced a humanitarian commitment: setting aside 20 Percent of his earnings to support people in prison, a community he believes is often forgotten and neglected.
Iyanii says the decision was inspired by personal experiences that opened his eyes to the realities faced by inmates. “Most of the time, people in prison are forgotten. Not many people remember them,” Iyanii shared. “I once had a conversation with a prison warden who told me about an inmate who had never been visited in over six years because he wronged his family. That story really touched my heart.”
The artiste was further motivated by the experience of a close friend who was wrongfully arrested and imprisoned, prompting Iyanii to reflect on how easily lives can be disrupted and how little support many inmates receive. “I asked myself what I could do to make a change,” he said. “That’s when I decided that from any money I make, 20 percent will be deducted and dedicated to visiting prisons and giving back.”
As part of this initiative, Iyanii recently donated a sound system to Kamiti Maximum Prison, after prison officials identified it as one of their most urgent needs. “It made my heart feel at peace,” he said. “I want to take music to prisons. The same experience I give to people in concerts and clubs is the same experience I want to give to those behind bars.”
Through his music and financial commitment, Iyanii aims to restore dignity, inspire hope, and remind incarcerated individuals that they are not forgotten.
