‘THOSE RESPONSIBLE SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE’ ASAKE BREAKS SILENCE ON DEATH OF REVELLER

A young woman Karen Lojore, died during a concert of Nigerian singer Asake in Nairobi last Saturday, the event’s organisers have confirmed.

Tukutane Entertainment, the company behind the concert at Nyayo Stadium said it was “deeply saddened” by her death. “Our hearts are with the family, friends, and loved ones affected by this devastating loss. We extend our deepest condolences during this incredibly difficult time,” the company said in a statement.

The statement, released on Monday evening, also said that investigations have begun to find out exactly how Karen lost her life during the chaotic event. The organisers stressed that public safety is a top priority. “The safety and well-being of everyone who attends our events is something we take very seriously,” the statement read.

Tukutane Entertainment said it is working fully with police and emergency services as they try to understand what happened. Out of respect for Karen’s family and the ongoing investigation, the company said it will not guess or share details about the incident.

The company promised to handle the situation with “care, transparency, and accountability,” and said it will share more information when it is able to, and only after speaking with the authorities.

Asake took to his Instagram Stories and stated, “I am devastated by the tragic incident that took place at the festival on Dec 20th in Nairobi. My heart goes out to the family, friends, and loved ones of Karen Lojore, and I pledge to support and do my best to understand what happened. 

Those responsible should be held accountable. Music has always been my way of sharing love and joy, and it breaks my heart that anyone had to experience such loss. My thoughts are with everyone grieving, and I pray that Karen rests in peace. God Bless Kenya.”

Fans at the concert reported scenes of confusion and a major crowd crush as people tried to enter the venue. The full circumstances leading to the tragedy are still being investigated.
