TRUPHENA MUTHONI ATTEMPTS TO SET NEW WORLD RECORD WITH 72-HOUR TREE-HUGGING MARATHON
Truphena Muthoni, a 22-year-old woman from Ihwagi village in Mathira, Nyeri, has started a 72-hour tree hug outside the Nyeri Governor’s office.
She is trying to beat her own world record of 48 hours, which she set earlier this year. Through this act, she hopes to get people around the world to notice important issues in her community.
For Truphena, this is about much more than a record. By holding the tree, she wants everyone to remember three important things: we must protect our native trees, we must respect the rights of native communities, and we must include people with disabilities in our society.

To help people understand the lives of those who cannot see, Truphena will wear a blindfold for three hours during her tree hug. This part of her effort is meant to build care and awareness for people with visual impairments.
Many local people have come to watch and cheer for her. They are inspired by her strength and her powerful message of care for both the earth and for people.
“Can’t take this for granted… Thank you guys for your continued support,” Truphena Said. “Let’s do this…#truphenahugsatreefor72hours.”
