DJ BROWNSKIN ACQUITTED OF ALL CHARGES IN WIFE’S DEATH CASE
A Nairobi court has formally dismissed all charges against deejay accused of failing to prevent his wife’s suicide four years ago. Michael Macharia Njiiri, popularly known as DJ Brownskin, was acquitted by Senior Principal Magistrate Carolyne Mugo at the Milimani Law Courts.
The magistrate found that the state’s case failed to demonstrate any premeditated intention or direct involvement by the deejay in the death of his wife, Sharon Njeri Mwangi.
In her ruling, Magistrate Mugo stated that the evidence presented by the prosecution’s five witnesses was insufficient to proceed to a full trial. “Upon evaluating all the evidence, I find that you had no role in the death of Sharon Njeri Mwangi,” she declared, noting the court had no alternative but to discharge the accused.

The defence argued that Njiiri played no part in the tragic incident. The magistrate rejected the prosecution’s contention that there was adequate evidence to require DJ Brownskin to present a defence, ultimately overruling their submission and ordering his release.
Njiiri had faced three charges related to the events of July 29, 2022, at their residence in Kariobangi South Estate. The charges included failing to prevent his wife from ingesting poison, negligence for not using all means to stop her, and destruction of evidence for allegedly discarding a SIM card that could have been pertinent to the case.
In a court testimony the deejay discovery his wife with foam at her mouth, Njiiri immediately alerted a neighbour. Together, they rushed her to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. Following the acquittal, the court directed that the bond money posted by DJ Brownskin be refunded to him.
