EZEKIEL MUTUA DEFENDS REV. NATASHA’S DECISION TO TRANSITION CHURCH ONLINE
Dr. Ezekiel Mutua, CEO of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK), has come to the defence of Reverend Lucy Natasha following her announcement to move the operations of her church from its physical location at Biashara Plaza to an online platform.
In a statement, Dr. Mutua said that churches, like any other legal entity, face operational obligations including rent, staff salaries, and utilities, and are not immune to the prevailing harsh economic climate.
“Treat the church as any legal business entity with obligations, and you’ll see it’s not immune to the harsh economic times hitting other organizations,” stated Dr. Mutua. “From my experience working with numerous church ministers, paying rent in the city unless you own the land outright is incredibly tough. Rev. Natasha’s decision isn’t weakness it’s inspiration and an eye-opener. It’s a bold decision that’s not sugarcoating the challenges, but is real and pragmatic.”
He noted that many church leaders have made similar decision or have been forced to close entirely, and even those with owned properties will grapple with escalating maintenance costs. “This challenge is not restricted to churches only. It affects different institutions including media houses, law firms, and beyond,” he added. “Other institutions should follow suit, embracing affordable spaces or online operations without shame.”
Reverend Natasha recently announced that she temporarily suspended in-person gatherings at its Biashara Plaza Rooftop location, effective Sunday, January 11th. All worship services, teachings, and fellowship activities have moved exclusively online until further notice.
“Due to venue challenges, starting this Sunday the 11th, we shall not be gathering at Biashara Plaza Rooftop. All services will remain ONLINE until further notice,” she stated. “Please stand with us in prayer as we transition toward our own God-ordained space. Let’s stay connected.”
