The Kenya School of Government (KSG) and Huawei Kenya have agreed to form a strategic partnership aimed at speeding up digital change in Kenya’s public sector. This comes after top leaders from both sides met on January 8, 2026 at the KSG campus in Lower Kabete.

The planned collaboration will helptrain government leaders in key tech areas like artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, cloud computing, and digital governance. This will helpKSG become a centre of excellence for digital skills in the public sector, preparing leaders and staff to deliver better services.

Both parties discussed signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support this training, which is in line with Kenya’s Vision 2030 and the National Digital Masterplan 2022–2032. KSG was created under the Kenya School of Government Act, 2012. Its role is to build the skills of public servants through leadership training, research, and policy advice. As a Vision 2030 institution, KSG helps shape honest, skilled, and high-performing leaders across all parts of government.

This partnership comes at a time when Kenya is moving forward with several key digital initiatives: In March 2025, Kenya launched the National AI Strategy 2025–2030, aiming to lead the region in AI use, innovation, and governance. The Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, 2018, helps fight cybercrime and protect computer systems. The Data Protection Act, 2019, protects personal data and privacy, ensuring organizations handle information responsibly.

Speaking on the partnership, KSG Director General Prof. Nura Mohamed said, “We welcome this partnership with Huawei to help speed up digital change in Kenya’s public service. Our goal is to build a workforce that can use cloud, AI, and cybersecurity tools to improve services, protect data, and meet national goals.”

Huawei has a strong record of supporting digital training in Kenya. It has worked with agencies like the Ministry of Interior and the National Cybercrimes Committee to train over 400 government staff in cybersecurity and digital skills. Yuta Leng, Public Affairs Director at Huawei Kenya, added, “Huawei is committed to supporting Kenya’s digital growth. Through this partnership, we want to use our tech expertise to improve public services, train civil servants, and help Kenya achieve its digital economy goals.”

The KSG–Huawei partnership will also support Kenya’s National AI Strategy by bringing real-world AI and cloud training into government leadership programs.
