MUNGAI EVE BREAKS SILENCE ON UNDERWEIGHT STRUGGLE, VOWS TO EXPOSE BULLIES
Kenyan YouTuber Mungai Eve has broken her silence on years of body shaming and online trolling, reclaiming her personal narrative around weight, health, and self-acceptance.
The creator shared a 2021 photo when she was “44kg underweight and unhealthy,” alongside her current, healthier self. She revealed her journey to gain weight only began in 2023, following a prolonged struggle with her body and relationship with food.
“I have struggled to gain weight. I have struggled to love food. I have struggled with my body for years,” Eve shared. “And I’m finally at a place where I can see visible, healthy changes, and I am happy about it.“

Her statement came as she addressed followers who comment on her weight gain, expressing a preference for her “old body.” Stating, “So no you did not ‘prefer’ me when I was underweight, not eating, and unhealthy. You preferred a version of me that was struggling.”
The YouTuber recounted the severe emotional toll of past bullying, including crying herself to sleep and breaking down in tears during a live television interview with media personality Jalang’o when discussing the torment she faced for being skinny. “Not anymore,” she said. “You don’t get to comment on my body. You don’t get to choose what version of me you like. You will prefer whatever body I decide to have. Because this is my world, not yours.”
Eve announced that from now on, “anyone who comments nonsense under my posts will be posted right here.” She aims to publicly expose the bullies, stating, “We need to start showing the world who the real bullies are. Enough is enough.”
