21-year-old Kenyan tennis champion Angella Okutoyi, has appealed for financial support to continue representing Kenya on the international tennis circuit

Despite her groundbreaking achievements, Okutoyi currently competes without formal sponsorship, financial challenges threatens to stall the momentum of one of the nation’s most promising athletic careers.

Okutoyi made history as the first Kenyan to win a Grand Slam junior title at Wimbledon in 2022. “I don’t have any sponsorship as of now, but any kind of support, mainly financially, would mean I can travel and play these tournaments,” she stated. “Anyone who’s out there, willing, I’ll be grateful.

Each tournament requires funding for international flights, accommodation, tournament entry fees, andcoaching support. Additional essential expenses include racket stringing, practice balls, gym access, and basic daily necessities. These cumulative costs create a financial hurdle for the independent athlete.

I need the flight ticket, accommodation, entry fees, a coach, rackets strung, it’s a lot of costs,” Okutoyi said. “Just anyone out there who’s willing to help, I’m here.”
