TRUPHENA MUTHONI OFFICIALLY RECOGNISED BY GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS

Truphena Muthoni has been officially recognised by Guinness World Records for setting the new world record for the Longest marathon hugging a tree. 

Muthoni achieved the remarkable feat by hugging a tree for 72 hours, surpassing her own previous record of 48 hours set earlier in 2025.

The record-breaking act was more than a personal challenge it was a powerful statement. Muthoni stated that her goal was to “elevate and advocate for the protection of Indigenous trees and to honour the wisdom of Indigenous peoples.” 

In recognition of her extraordinary commitment, President William Ruto issued a formal statement praising Muthoni’s “deeply symbolic gesture aimed at raising national and global awareness on environmental conservation and climate change.”

The President announced a series of honours and appointments for the record-holder. These include: Appointment as an ambassador for Kenya’s ambitious 15 Billion National Tree Planting Campaign. Award of the Head of State Commendation (HSC) Medal for her service to environmental stewardship.
