Content creator and dancer Martina Glez has reflected on the difficulties she and her then-partner Tileh Pacbro faced while living in Spain during the birth of their son, revealing financial strain, language barriers, and relationship pressure.

In an interview, Martina described how what began as a peaceful pregnancy in Spain slowly gave way to the reality of surviving abroad with a newborn and little stability.

Martina recalled that the early days in Spain were calm. “Spain was a happy time when you were pregnant,” she said. She explained that the couple spent the summer there while she was seven months pregnant, staying between her mother’s house and a flat her parents had in the city.

But after their son was born, things changed. “Once our child was born, we moved to my mom’s house. It was hard, because Spanish people don’t speak English at all. In my family, like three people spoke English. Obviously he didn’t speak Spanish and he couldn’t do any bureaucracy or anything things that happen when you have a child and you have to do.”

Martina admitted the weight of becoming parents while adjusting to a new country took a toll. “It was hard to be honest. I feel like we were too early in a relationship for that many changes. All of a sudden we have a child, and we’re living in a whole different country where you can’t speak the language. The first year of your child’s life is gonna be hard regardless.”

The couple worked as dance teachers, but Martina said the income was not sustainable. “We were working as dance teachers, that’s not sustainable for living. In Kenya, it was way more easier to make a living than in Spain. We were just depending on my family honestly. We were still posting and making some money from YouTube but not enough. Not enough.”

She revealed she had wanted to return to Kenya immediately, but Tileh initially insisted they see things through in Spain. “I wanted to come back ASAP but he thought that we’ve decided to move here now we are gonna see through, like, we’re just gonna make it happen here. It wasn’t happening.”

Everything changed when Tileh visited Kenya in May 2022. “He came to visit Kenya in May of 2022 now, and I think he realised how much he missed his country and his people and ugali. He came back to Spain and was like, let’s go back to Kenya. I was like, yes.” The couple returned to Kenya in June 2022.
