SAMMY KIOKO APPEALS TO PRESIDENT RUTO OVER SH19 MILLION DEBT DISPUTE

Popular Kenyan comedian and businessman, Sammy Kioko, has made a desperate appeal to President William Samoei Ruto, seeking intervention for the payment of Ksh19 million allegedly owed to him by the Machakos County Government.

The debt stems from a 2024 contract awarded to Kioko’s business to supply staff uniforms for the county administration under Governor Wavinya Ndeti. Kioko states that his company fully supplied the ordered goods and invoiced the county, but has not received payment for over a year, despite persistent follow-ups.

Driven to desperation, Kioko, accompanied by his sister, begun a daily peaceful protest outside the Machakos County Government offices to demand action. In a video message directed to the President, Kioko detailed the severe personal and financial toll of the unpaid debt.

Mr. President, my name is Sammy Kioko, a creative and a businessman. Today I feel discouraged, suffocated, and ignored,” Kioko stated. “We supplied everything and invoiced. We have been following our payments, but everything has become unfruitful… I’m tired of borrowing debt upon debts. We don’t know what to do.”

He further pleaded, “This is my humble request; we beg you to help us even through any public office that can come and listen to us… our businesses and our families depend on us.”

The prolonged non-payment has reportedly crippled Kioko’s fashion enterprise and pushed him into personal debt
