COMEDIAN NASRA YUSUFF MAKES URGENT APPEAL FOR STARVING COMMUNITY IN MANDERA EAST
Comedian and content creator Nasra Yusuff has launched an urgent humanitarian appeal for a remote community in Mandera East following a visit that revealed hundreds of families fighting over food and crying out for water.
In an emotional plea to her followers, Yusuff described witnessing people fighting over the limited supplies her team managed to deliver to the village, which has been completely overlooked byaid agencies despite the severe drought gripping the region.
“There’s a community in Mandera East that needs urgent food and water supply, and I need your help,” Yusuff pleaded. “I only have you, my online family. Please don’t hold back.“
During her visit to the village, she discovered that the scale of the crisis was far worse than anticipated. The community, which appears on no official aid maps, has been surviving in complete isolation.

“They were telling me no one has visited them. No one even knew that they were here. And the minute they saw us, they were very grateful and very thankful. And they just started saying, ‘Water, water, water. We just need water,’” Yusuff recounted.
The comedian, visibly shaken by what she witnessed, described the heartbreaking scene of desperate families fighting over the food her team managed to bring.
“It’s very sad that in 2026, there are people who are still crying for a basic human right, like water,” she said. “I’ve actually witnessed people fighting over food and the few resources that we’ve brought. I don’t know how to feel about this.”
The crisis in Mandera comes amid one of the worst droughts to hit Kenya’s northern counties in decades. According to recent reports, more than two million people across 23 counties are facing acute food insecurity following the failure of the October-December 2025 short rains, which delivered only 30 to 60 percent of the long-term average rainfall .
Mandera County has been classified in the alarm phase by the National Drought Management Authority, just one step short of an official emergency . An estimated 497,950 people in Mandera are struggling to meet basic food needs .
