Kenya’s decorated middle-distance runner Faith Kipyegon has once again earned a spot on the prestigious Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year shortlist, marking her third consecutive nomination since 2024

The double Olympic champion and world record holder delivered an extraordinary 2025 season that solidified her legacy as one of the greatest female athletes in history. At the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Kipyegon claimed her fourth global title in the 1,500m, crossing the line in 3:52.15. That victory made her the first woman ever to secure four world championship gold medals in a distance event.

Kipyegon’s dominance extended beyond championship glory. She shattered her own 1,500m world record at the Prefontaine Classic, shaving 0.36 seconds off her previous mark to post a stunning 3:49.04 becoming the first woman to break the 3:50 barrier in the discipline.

The 32-year-old also showcased her versatility on the roads, winning the ATHLOS NYC Mile in October with a time of 4:17.78. That performance stands as the fastest women’s outdoor mile ever recorded on American soil.

This year’s nomination places Kipyegon among an elite field of global superstars. She faces stiff competition from American duo Sha’Carri Richardson last year’s triple World gold medalist in the sprints and 400m hurdles world record holder Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone. Also in the running are Belarusian tennis star Aryna Sabalenka, a four-time Grand Slam champion; American swimming icon Katie Ledecky; and Spanish footballer Aitana Bonmati, fresh off her World Cup triumph.
