GOVERNMENT TO ESTABLISH NATIONAL FILM STUDIO TO SUPPORT CREATIVE INDUSTRY
The government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the film industry through the establishment of a National Film Studio. This initiative, driven by a partnership with the Kenya Film Commission (KFC), is set to provide critical infrastructure for creatives across the nation.
The announcement was made during the unveiling of nominees for the 14th edition of the Kalasha International Film and TV Awards, held in Nairobi. Speaking at the event, KFC Board Chair Sudi Wandabusi detailed the government’s strategic vision to integrate creative industry facilities into national development projects.
“In line with the presidential directive on the integration of creative industry facilities within the affordable housing program, the government through KFC will establish film studios in various projects across the country,” said Wandabusi. “This will be a major step for the industry and will provide significant support to creatives.”
The establishment of these studios marks a pivotal moment for Kenyan filmmakers, offering world-class infrastructure that aims to boost local production quality, attract international co-productions, and cement Kenya’s status as a premier filming destination.
The announcement sets the stage for the upcoming Kalasha International Film & TV Market, Festival, and Awards, scheduled to take place from April 28th to May 2nd, 2026, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC). As East and Central Africa’s premier screen content platform, the Kalasha International event serves as a vital hub for industry stakeholders, innovators, and global partners.
The annual gathering provides a crucial platform for industry dialogue, policy exchange, collaboration, and the showcasing of innovation within the global screen sector.
