As the 2026 Formula One season prepares to ignite in Melbourne, veteran driver Lewis Hamilton has turned the spotlight toward Africa, naming Kenya as one of his most cherished travel destinations while he calls for the continent to host a Grand Prix.

In pre-race interviews ahead of the season opener, the seven-time world champion opened up about his extensive travels across Africa and his mission to bring Formula One racing back to African soil.

The British racing icon, who now drives for Ferrari, revealed that his visits to the continent have left an indelible mark on him. “I’ve been to ten countries now in Africa. There is still so much to see,” Hamilton shared.

When asked about his favourite spots, The ones that I’ve enjoyed the most, I loved Kenya,” he stated, describing the East African nation as a place that genuinely captivated him. While acknowledging that Kenya may not currently possess the infrastructure for a Formula One race, he made it clear that the country holds a special place in his heart.

The continent has been absent from the racing calendar since 1993, when South Africa last hosted a Grand Prix. Today, every other inhabited continent features at least one race, making Africa the sole exception. “I don’t want to leave the sport without having a Grand Prix there, without getting to race there,Hamilton said.
