OSCARS 2026: WANURI KAHIU STEPS OUT IN KENYAN DESIGNER MUYISHIME
Kenyan filmmaker and producer Wanuri Kahiu turned heads at the 2026 Academy Awards, showcasing the best of Kenyan fashion and creative talent on the world’s most prestigious red carpet.
Kahiu, the acclaimed director behind award-winning films such as Rafiki, graced the Oscars red carpet wearing a stunning custom creation by Nairobi-based contemporary luxury brand Muyishime, styled by renowned Kenyan stylist Brian Babu.
Sharing her Oscars experience with followers, Kahiu said,”A wonderful day at the 2026 Oscars. An incredible time had with @dreamhampton. The incredible dress by @muyishime_ and stylist @brianbabu. After the after party… the gold party #oscars2026.”

The ensemble captured attention for its elegant design, impeccable tailoring, and bold yet timeless aesthetic perfectly aligned with the brand’s philosophy of creating fashion that is both striking and meaningful.
Muyishime is a sustainable brand, in a context of dwindling natural resources. The brand uses a percentage waste fabric in the designs which would otherwise end up in a landfill. Muyishime sculpts innovative, tailored and elegant designs which aims to be inclusive.
Babu is a sought-after Kenyan fashion stylist known for dressing and styling an impressive roster of Kenya’s most celebrated talent, including Amina Abdi Rabar, Kate Actress, Nviiri the Storyteller, Bensou and Sauti Sol.
His creative vision spans live performances, high-profile events, television appearances, music videos, and editorial photoshoots, consistently showcasing his ability to merge contemporary trends with authentic Kenyan aesthetics. Through his work, Brian has established himself as a trusted creative force behind some of the industry’s most memorable looks.
