Tensions boiled over on Citizen TV’s JKL Live on Wednesday night when Ian Mbugua walked off the set after a heated exchange with former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala, who accused him of being a government apologist.

The incident occurred during a segment titled “Echoes on The Bench,” where guests including Dennis ItumbiMichael Pundo had gathered to discuss drama festivals in Kenya. What began as a policy conversation quickly spiralled into shouting matches, particularly between Itumbi and Malala.

As the chaos escalated, Mbugua seated on the bench alongside the other guests attempted to interject but was met with persistent interruptions and heckling.

The confrontation reached its peak when Malala directly accused Mbugua, Itumbi and Pundo of being a government apologist, a statement that appeared to be the final straw for the political analyst.

Visibly frustrated, Mbugua stood up and left. “Good night. Please take the microphone.” leaving the studio audience and viewers stunned.
