SINGER WENDY KIMANI SPEAKS ON BATTLING HORMONAL DISORDER AND HOW SHE MANAGED TO CONCEIVE
Netherlands-based Kenyan singer Wendy Kimani has opened up about battling with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). In a social media post, the singer disclosed how she discovered she was pregnant after a long battle with the hormonal disorder. “The infertility journey is brutal. But it doesn’t have to be a life sentence. I still remember that day I found out I was pregnant with my little man Taji. Of course it didn’t sink in because why would it. I had a whole year worth of stress and negative tests that led to my young one,” Wendy wrote.
Wendy also said that she knew about her condition and how difficult it could be to conceive, forcing her to adapt to specific lifestyle changes. “I already knew I had PCOS before we started trying to conceive but I hadn’t been 100 percent following my lifestyle changes. So when we decided to try conceiving, I promised myself to be consistent and if I don’t get pregnant then I would know that I did everything in my power,” she added.
She successfully conceived after adopting lifestyle changes which included doing slow exercises, eating low foods in glycemic and using supplements. “Treating or managing my PCOS symptoms with healthy low Glycemic foods, slow exercise, and supplements helped me get my body and hormones back on track and my Taji was the beautiful, perfect result,” Wendy concluded.
In a social media post in September 2020 during PCOS awareness month, Wendy revealed that her diagnosis left her feeling alone and broken, however she learnt to embrace her condition and delights in creating awareness of the condition. “I felt alone, broken and cheated of my youth. It felt like I was the only person that I knew who had PCOS. I’m still on a journey of accepting and managing it. I’ve learnt so much about how to manage it through sharing my story and finding women with the same issues and sharing ways to manage it,” she said.
After being put on medication and contraceptives to regulate her periods, Wendy explains that she saw a positive change and was more than excited. However, her drugs ran out and her condition reoccurred and she made the decision to regulate her PCOS through her diet.
