MAUREEN WAITITU OPENS UP ABOUT FACING SEXUAL HARASSMENT AT A YOUNG AGE

Vlogger and social media influencer Maureen Waititu revealed that she, too, had faced sexual harassment at a young age.

Talking about the unfortunate occurrence, she said, “I remember so vividly I was 10 when a man first touched me inappropriately, almost defiling me. I had visited my aunty for holidays and the man was a neighbour and a father to some kids I was playing with.

I’ll never forget this for as long as I live and I still will never know how it affected me even as adulthood. The sad bit is that this does not just happen to girls and women, it happens to boys too.

I have heard of so many instances where grown men remember their first sexual experiences being when they were just kids and mostly it was always with older female relatives or people really close to them. Most people don’t want to talk about this.”

The mother of two encouraged her fans to tell their stories, “I feel sick typing this but I want to use this platform not to open wounds but to remind ourselves to talk to our children with the aim of changing the narrative, heal out childhood traumas and have them know that they are safe with us.
