TANZANIAN ACTRESS SHILOLE OPENS UP ABOUT HER EXPERIENCES OF DOMESTIC ABUSE

By  |

Popular Tanzanian actress and musician Zena Yusuf Mohammed aka Shilole has shared her own experiences of domestic abuse and leaving a toxic marriage.

The 32-year-old bongo star said she has decided to end her three-year marriage to her husband Ashrafu Sadiki.

I am writing this with a clear mind and conscience. First, I would like to apologise to my family. I am seeking your forgiveness because I assured you that my marriage was trouble-free, while in reality, it wasn’t like that. I have been a victim of domestic violence that I cannot speak about.

I apologise because every time I heard my fellow women were being abused by their spouses, I would urge them to voice out their grievances.

When I heard that there was a woman from Kigamboni, who was battered and her body set on fire I mourned with the family and asked why she didn’t speak up. But I forgot and distanced myself from being one of them but in real sense I was, forgive me.

I am a role model to many in the society; I represent so many women. Today, I have decided to break my silence and say the truth. My husband Ashrafu Sadiki, popularly known as Uchebe, has been battering me too much!

And after abusing me, he never calls to know how I am doing. I nurse my injuries with other people unknown to me in.” her statement read in part.

She also stated no one should refer to her as Mrs Uchebe, “I’m done and starting from now henceforth; I ask you should not refer to me as Uchebe’s wife. But a mother who chose to prioritise her children’s well being and her happiness and safety.”
