EX-TATTUU SINGER ANGIE MWANDANDA TALKS NEW ACTING CAREER AND GOING SOLO
Angie Mwandanda a former member of the music group Tattuu, currently plays Kate in the Swahili telenovela Selina that airs weekly on Maisha Magic Plus and Showmax.
She spoke to Buzz Central about her new solo music career and acting. Talking about the reunion of their girl group Tattuu, she said, “This question comes up every year! If time allows and we are all available and interested in doing so then we will make that comeback. But truly we don’t even feel like it was a breakup, because as shared, we have always been friends.”
Angie is set to launch her solo career, “Hopefully I will release an EP between now and 2021.”
On acting she plays Kate a smart, high-spirited woman who is passionate about her work and deeply fond of Dr.Leshan played Fidel Maithya to the extent of threatening his marriage to Patricia Mackenzie played by Helen Keli. “When I was 19, I went to Phoenix Players Theatre in the hope to be selected for their annual musical.
I went there with the intention to sing and support the main actors, but the director had something else in mind. He gave me the lead role in the Musical Cinderella and it was an experience that changed me completely.
I met Debbie Asila and Angela Ndambuki who were also acting there at the time. We then became friends and performed in several plays, and from there we transitioned into Tattuu the singing group. We had our first recording with Ogopa DJs.
I gradually overcame my shyness and fell in love with acting. Since that time and over the years, I have done many stage performances and been in a few movies as well.”
Apart from acting, she is focusing on business, “I am focused on marketing and business development in the film industry. I am also hoping to produce a few films and a series of my own in the next couple of months, God willing.”
