OTILE BROWN EXPLAINS WHY HE DOESN’T HANGOUT WITH BALLERS AND THE SLOW GROWTH OF MUSIC INDUSTRY

Singer Otile Brown says he doesn’t like being compared to other artistes as the Kenyan entertainment industry works differently from others.

In a lengthy post, he says the Kenyan industry does not support local artistes and they have to invest on themselves, “I think Kenyan artists should be respected. All of those “Big artistes” Y’all compare us with, they had/have godfathers who hold them down and even now that they’ve made it, their godfathers are still putting money on their projects. Our growth has to be slow and gradual because we are always doing it all by ourselves, no label, no investors and remember we ain’t form rich families.

We have to balance the little that we get to pay bills, take care of our families and invest it back in the business. We’ve been failed by our government, media and even some of the selfish stake holders in the business, like music distributors who take advantage of artistes. Tell me why a corporate brand would take about 70 percent of all the revenues collected by platforms such as ring back tones and other platforms, they’ve suck us dry.”

He also added you won’t see him hanging out with ballers because all they do is to use him to look cool, “I also see young ballers but all they want is to call you for a hangout on alcohol and women just to make them look cool. That’s why y’all will never see me around them.

Before y’all speak, always know that we’re doing it by ourselves and those who you think are better than us ‘wamembebwa”. What they think about is how to grow their music because everything is sorted. With love and I’m straight btw and okay with my gradual growth. Just stop thinking and saying that we ain’t putting in enough effort!”
