COMING 2 AMERICA A MUST WATCH, KENYAN FLAG FEATURED IN THE MOVIE

Over the weekend, Amazon Prime Video debuted its much-anticipated Coming 2 America sequel after a 33-year hiatus. The movie celebrates black culture, family, and love with a comedic touch. Buzz Central got a front row seat at the exclusive pre-screening of the movie. We give you reasons why the movie is a must watch for Kenyans.

Kenyan flag flown high

You may be surprised to see a Kenyan flag in the film, which is seen as part of Lavelle’s (Prince Akeem’s son) costume when he needs to learn royal ways and pass a “princely test” which includes the difficult part of a test to clip the whiskers off a lion.

South African actress makes a debut

South African actor Nomzamo Mbatha, who has starred in the TV series Isibaya and Umlilo, and serves as a spokesperson for several major brands like Neutrogena Africa, Puma South Africa, L’Oréal Paris Hair, and an ambassador for the United Nations Refugee Agency. Has a break-out role in the film as Mirembe, the royal groomer of Zamundathe, King Akeem’s son also his love interest.

African inspired costume

Designed by Black Panther’s costume designer Ruth. E. Carter. She created large-scale beautiful African prints and gorgeous shapes as the designer looked to fashion on a global scale. She worked with more than three dozen designers on the film, looking to African and African American creatives such as Palesa Mokubung of Mantsho, House of Deola, Ikire Jones and custom jewels from Khiry, TruFace By Grace, Aphia Sakyi, and Sewit Sium with traditional gems from Bulgari and Swarovski.

African artiste music in the movie

Music plays an important role in films and apart from Nigerian musician Davido making a performance appearance in the film. Hip-hop and Afrobeat-inspired sounds dominated the new movies with songs such as Koroba Tiwa Savage, Assurance Davido, Waka Waka Tekno, These Streets Mi Casa, Black and White Nasty C and Ari Lennox, Owo Ni Koko Larry Gaaga and Umu Obiligbo, Skeletum Tekno, Hallelujah Diamond Platnumz and Morgan Heritage and Dangerous Love Tiwa Savage and DJ Ganyani among other aristes.
