By  |

Tanzanian singer Diamond Platnumz has revealed how much he earned with his popular song Waah featuring Congolese singer Koffi Olomide. According to him, when the song reached over 39 million views on YouTube his estimated earnings was around Sh4.1 million (32,266).

When the song Waah reached 39,358,770 million views I made €32,266.53 an equivalent of TSh89,869,867.07 So when you hear the word views, it is not just pride that people are watching a song or content. It is distribution sales, which is made when people view #learn,” said Diamond.

Though makes good money on YouTube, Diamond says having millions of views like him does not guarantee you making good money like him, “And not every song that gets such views can earn that amount of money, it depends on your song and the countries it’s being viewed. Because there are some countries whose views do not generate significant income. Developed countries have high earnings because they place ads and they set big budgets! Therefore, we strive to ensure that our work is being viewed by people in western countries.”

He also said, “The word trending in translation is popular and in order for it to be popular and appealing to attract people to watch it and listening to it. It’s for you to decide, you either make a fool of yourself so that people will watch or create something good that will trend and make you earn more money.

When you see a person deciding to create work that trends he should be praised and respected and not criticized, he is a good role model for others to be creative because he decided to think positively for the nation’s interest. He could have put up nude videos and trended but embarrassed the nation!”

His song currently has over 60 million views on YouTube and numbers still continues to grow.
