‘MUM TOOK ME TO A WITCH DOCTOR TO CURE MY VITILIGO’ MACHACHARI’S MAMA STELLA REVEALS

Former Machachari actress Clara Wamaitha, alias Mama Stella has opened up on her experience with vitiligo, a disease that causes the loss of skin colour in blotches.

Speaking during an interview on Jalang’o TV, the actress disclosed that no one in her family has the condition, further detailing how it all started. “In my family no one has it but when it started it was a tiny patch on my skin but I ignored thinking it was an allergy and it will just disappear. But one year, two years later I was turning white, so that’s when I started medication,” she said.

The medication journey was not easy with Mama Stella stating that the doctors’ reports were not conclusive. “I’ve visited so many doctors and there is nothing conclusive they don’t tell you what is happening to your pigment. I was given some cream to apply, some medicine to take but nothing happened. But there is this one doctor after giving me some medicine I realized it was now spreading so fast so I discontinued,” she added.

The actress also disclosed that the condition first struck when she was a young kid, revealing that she was once taken to a witch doctor. “You see when you are a mother you will do anything for the sake of your kid. My mum could listen to so many stories and at one point I found myself in Kawangware in a very big pot with a lid on it and I was waiting for the fire to be lit,” said Mama Stella.

With the witchcraft option not working, the actress said her mother took her to another doctor who advised her to feed Mama Stella with a mixture of ‘strong tea’ and alcohol. At the time, the actress was just 9-years-old. “And then again she took me to another doctor and I don’t know what this doctor was thinking giving kids some whiskey at that early age. My mother was told to buy alcohol and mix it with water made with strong tea leaves. For three months I never stepped to school because I was totally drunk,” she concluded.
