DENNIS OLIECH SPEAKS ON WHY HE RARELY ACCEPTS MEDIA INTERVIEWS
Celebrated Kenyan footballer Dennis Oliech has explained why he rarely does media interviews despite his celebrity status. Speaking in a recent interview, the football legend explained that he is shy and also a stammerer which makes it hard for him to do interviews. “You know I’m shy, I’m humble and I’m a stammerer and it has been an issue since I was in primary school and when I grew I realised I’m famous and I need to do interviews and I had to step up and learn how to control the stammering. That’s why I rarely do interviews,” Oliech said.
Oliech also spoke about his life through high school saying that he did not pay school fees because of his talent. “I never paid school fees, I was lucky. That is why I am always telling people, talent can pay. I was really lucky because I never paid anything from form one to form four,” he said.
The footballer also recalled how his brother who was living abroad was trolled because they were living in a house made of timber forcing them to move into a better house.”We were living in a Sh200 house in Dagoretti Corner, my elder brother the late Steve Okumu was in states and he was trolled because we were living in a house made of timber. He called us and told us to move into a Sh10,000 house,” Oliech narrated.
Unfortunately, his brother who was paying rent died months later forcing him to step in and take care of the family. “He was paying the rent from the U.S. He paid for three months and he unfortunately passed away. Following his death we decided who is going to be paying rent. I left Kakamega High school and joined Kamukunji High school. I came to Nairobi to play football so that I can pay rent. While I was in Kakamega I was paid Sh200, I wondered if I could make more money in Nairobi. In Form 2 I played for a team in Mathare and I was earning Sh18,000 a month and for two years I paid the Sh10,000 rent,” he said.
