ACTOR IAN NENE ON HIS MOTHER BEING DIAGNOSED WITH CANCER AND BATTLING DEPRESSION

Former Machachari actor, Ian Nene popularly known as Almasi has talked about his mother battling stage four breast cancer.

Speaking in an interview, Ian said he moved to the UK to pursue a degree in marketing and on one holiday he came back to Kenya to visit his family. His mom sat him down and broke the news that she had been diagnosed with cancer which had advanced to other parts of her body.

“My mum sat me down and she was like, Ian I have something to tell you, I went to the hospital and the doctor’s did a scan and they checked me out and they told me I’ve got stage four breast cancer which has moved to the lungs.”

Nene sunk into depression and started using drugs, “I got so depressed, my mum raised me single handedly because my father was not really in my life. As soon as something like that happens, you immediately think the worst, like she’s going to die and I tried to numb myself by getting high. I also asked God, “Why do you allow bad things to happen to good people?”

He wondered why his uncle who was a heavy drinker enjoyed good health when his mom, a person who dedicated her life to serving others, had cancer.
