MACHACHARI ACTOR ALMASI ON WHY HE QUIT CHRISTIANITY TO BECOME A MONK

By  |

Former Machachari actor Ian Nene also known as Almasi took the internet by storm when he revealed he had changed his religion from Christianity to Hinduism.

Speaking in an interview with vlogger Shivani Pau, he disclosed the reason why he decided to become a monk. “When I was younger we had the elements of spirituality in our home. I was born and raised in a catholic home, the concept of God was always there but it was not really in depth the way I would have wanted it. Some questions I would ask I wouldn’t really get clear answers. For us in our generation we want clear answers so I was always skeptical of how religion was presented to me.”

After his mum was diagnosed with breast cancer, Nene questioned God’s existence and why he allowed bad things to happen to good people. One day when he was scrolling on Facebook, he saw a picture of a lady who looked peaceful and he enquired about it, “I was scrolling on Facebook and one of my old friends had posted a picture of a lady who had a mark on her face and she looked peaceful. I asked her how to be spiritual and zen and she told me she couldn’t make me zen but she will tell me the truth.”

The friend invited him to a temple, “She invited me to a temple and I started learning and they were answering all my questions deeply and scientifically and how God is manoeuvring this world and a lot of technical questions,” he said

His mom was against it and even asked him to stop going to the temple because she thought they were brainwashing him, “I became a vegetarian. I remember my mum’s face when I came home from a temple and she had told me not to go to the temple again. She thought I was being brainwashed. When I went back to the UK. I met monks and they took me to a temple, where I spent most of the times, especially during holidays, and dedicated even more cohesive time to it especially during holidays
