KINA ACTRESS LYDIA GITACHU OPENS UP ABOUT LOSING VIRGINITY IN A RAPE
Kina actress Lydia Gitachu is speaking out about being raped, Lydia shared her story with vlogger Moments with Justus.
The actress said the harrowing ordeal happened in 1998, “When I finished high school in 1995, my two elder brothers had gone to the U.S and I was waiting to join them. I developed a habit of going to the jam sessions, one day, my grandmother told me not to go but I hid and went, that night when I was leaving the jam session, me and my friend were kidnapped and they took us to Nairobi to what is now K1.
I didn’t know where we were and we decided to find a way back home to Thika, we ditched the three guys. I remember my grandmother had told me not to go anywhere without money so I had Sh200 in my bra. We started walking and we found ourselves on Uhuru Highway and we went to town. We got to the stage for Thika but it was too late, there were no cars at that time.”
Having no way to go home, her friend suggested they go to her aunty’s place in Umoja for the night, “My friend told me her aunty lived in Umoja and we took a matatu to Umoja, when we got there, she didn’t know where the aunty lived so I told her we sleep at a kiosk and wait for the sun to come up before we could leave. On a way, we met three guys who took our Sh200 and they also decided to rape us, they took us to the bushes and as one of them was raping me I remember telling him to hit me with a stone until I die. When the ordeal was over, they gave us back the Sh200 and gave us directions to Thika.
When we got to Thika, I went to my aunty’s place and told her what happened. She took me to my grandmother’s place because she realised something had died in me. My virginity was taken away by strangers. I was planning to do something because I didn’t want to live. She talked to my grandmother and my grandma told me I will be okay. I remember that was the time Aids was big so I turned my life around and started going to church.”
