The late musician passed away on Sunday, March 19. In a lengthy post, musician Mr Lenny shared how they started working together, “I remember I was introduced to you by Lucas of Ogopa. He told me there was a guy he wanted me to meet and work with. He said your voice was rough and husky and mine being soft and mellow that the two would blend in very well and so he organised the meeting tukapatana kwa studio.
At 1st when we met you would speak so fast I couldn’t understand what you were saying ulikuwa unakula tu ma words. I still find it funny so prior to that Lucas had made me listen to your songs and I thought you had an interesting music style. So we went on to record our first single African Woman which was kinda slow, mellow with a reggae vibe to it after we recorded it I knew it was an instant hit and indeed it was so much so that we decided to do a second song by the title Baby Don Go.”
The single went on to win Kisima Award and was nominated for Kora Awards, “We did our first video and after releasing the song it went on to become one of the biggest hits at that time we even won a Kisima Award for best video and even got nominated for Kora Awards in South Africa. Hatuku kuwa tunashikika buanaaa(in luo accent) Wueh! Tulitesa sanaa.
There’s so much I can write about the experiences we had after the collaborations we did but let me just Thank you for agreeing to work with me and trusting that I would deliver which I did. Rest In Eternal Peace Brother Kunguru. Till we meet again. It is well!” Kunguru will be laid to rest on April 1 at Pap Oriang in Alego, Siaya.
