By  |

Bensoul’s mum Susan Nzembi has been laid to rest. The musician shared a photo of her funeral and captioned, “Rest well my first love. I love you mum.🕊️❤️”

Over the weekend, Bensoul informed his fans at a concert that his mother Susan passed away last week. Rest in peace to my mama. She left us last week, but right here we are having a good time celebrating. Her name is Suzana, so mnaimba Suzana with passion, au sio?

In a past interview, Bensoul has opened up about his childhood life and being raised by a single parent. He talked about the challenges of being raised in a slum, “I was born and raised in Embu in a slum called Dallas. I have been raised by a single mum. My father left us. I have a big sister called Lucy, basically, my big sister raised me.”

My husband left because he wanted me to convert to Islam. He said that if me and my son did not convert to Islam then we should not be associated with him,” said his mum.

The talented former Sol Generations signee also says his dad did not want him to be a musician, “My father was a musician. He sang in a choir and played in a certain band. He tried to stop me from doing music but music has been a part of me since I was a 3-year-old. I would leave school and go to Full Gospel Church of Kenya. I would sit next to a guitarist or pianist. I would observe which cords he played the most and ask to try it. The pastor was very happy about my calling to music.

I remember he said that not even education will elevate me as much as music would. I was called to Technical university to study Civil Engineering. I did that for three years then dropped out in the fourth year. I lived in Land Mawe at the time. If you have lived there you know how tough it is. Life is cheap but there are bed bugs.”
