DENNIS OMBACHI RECEIVES SH3.2 MILLION GRANT FROM CHANGE MAKERS PROGRAM

By  |

Popular content creator Dennis Ombachi, also known as The Roaming Chef, has been selected as a Changemaker in TikTok’s Change Makers Program

The program is the platform’s first global initiative designed to elevate creators and non-profits who drive significant change within their communities through TikTok. The six-month program will provide support to selected creators worldwide, helping them build engaged communities, reach new audiences, and unlock real-world opportunities.

Each Changemaker, including Ombachi, will receive a grant of Sh3.2 million ($25,000) as a direct donation to support their advocacy efforts, significantly enhancing the impact of their work.

We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Dennis Ombachi and TikTok to amplify children’s voices across Africa,” said Jennifer Kaberi, CEO of Mtoto News. “This collaboration will ensure that the perspectives of African children on crucial issues such as climate change, education, and digital wellbeing are heard loud and clear. Together, we are committed to empowering the next generation and ensuring their voices make a difference.”

Ombachi, a self-taught chef and former international rugby sevens player, is celebrated for his unique commentary “Done!” He has garnered a substantial following of 2.3 million on TikTok.

After an injury ended his rugby career, Ombachi reinvented himself as a social media star with a global fan base. Following a bipolar disorder diagnosis in 2018, he turned to cooking as a way to maintain his mental health. During the pandemic, he focused on creating cooking content, keeping his videos “short and snappy.” In 2022, he received the TikTok Award for Best African Content Creator.
